Grinding is the entire process, not just the prep step.
Every coated floor on this site starts with diamond grinding as a prep step before a base coat and topcoat go on. Polished concrete skips the coating part of that sequence entirely — grinding is the finish. We run a series of progressively finer diamond tooling passes across the slab, each grit removing the scratch pattern left by the one before it, until the concrete itself reaches the sheen level you’ve chosen, anywhere from a flat matte to a glossier satin. Along the way we apply a penetrating densifier, a chemical hardener that reacts with the concrete to close its pores and increase surface hardness, so the polished surface resists staining and abrasion without a film-forming coating on top of it. There’s no base coat, no topcoat, and no cure-time wait for a film to harden — the floor is the material, ground to a finish, not a floor with something applied over it.
What makes this different from every other system on this site is the absence of a bonded layer. Epoxy and polyaspartic depend on a coating adhering to the concrete, which is exactly what makes proper grinding so critical for those systems — a weak bond means the coating eventually lifts. Polished concrete removes that failure mode by never introducing a bonded layer at all.
